Douglas Vetter, PhD

Portrait of Dr. Douglas Vetter

Dr. Vetter is an associate professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. He began working at UMMC in 2011 after serving as an assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Department of Neuroscience.

Dr. Vetter’s research interests include Gene and Protein Expression Analysis (qRT-PCR, ELISA, western blot, electrochemiluminescent assays), Peripheral Auditory Physiology, Neuroanatomy, Mouse Genetics, Mouse Genome Manipulation, Bioinformatics, Integrative (systems) Biology, including cell signaling pathways.

Dr. Vetter’s research has resulted in numerous high-profile research papers published in Cell, Neuron, Nature, as well as presentations at national and international meetings and invited seminars. His work on the biology of hearing and hearing loss has been supported by several NIH grants. Dr. Vetter was the recipient of the UMMC Excellence in Research Award – Silver Level for extramural funding.  He has served on a variety of both intramural and extramural committees (NIH, VA, NSF, and private charitable foundation grant review boards) and holds multiple memberships in organizations such as the AAAS, American Chemical Society, Society for Neuroscience and the Association for Research in Otolaryngology.
